You may have already found the breathtaking wedding venue, the wow-factor dress and, of course, the love of your life, but how do you choose the perfect fairytale wedding cake to match? I believe there are three very simple key elements…
When it comes to a fairytale wedding cake, presentation is everything. Your cake is the centrepiece of your wedding reception and you have an opportunity to make it a standout feature.
Height is a great way to do this, but don’t panic if grand designs with many tiers aren’t quite in budget or to your taste. There are plenty of ways to create the illusion of height and make a big impression. For example, you can carefully raise the cake on a platform, giving it a bit of extra oomph. Or, design a cake table that is a real display, with colour-coordinated decorations and perhaps other sweet treats, placing your fairytale cake proudly in the centre.
A fairytale wedding cake should taste as good as it looks. After seeing it all evening your guests will be dying for a taste by the time you come around to cutting it. What better way to complete the fairytale experience than to give your guests the most delicious, divine slice of cake they’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. And what better way to start your married life than with a bar-setting delectable treat.
The fantastic thing about flavour is that you have so many options. Many cake suppliers offer a wide range of flavours, and you don’t have to stop at just one. You could have one tier with a ‘safe’, crowd-pleasing flavour like vanilla or chocolate, and then a quirky taste for a second tier that says something about the two of you.
It is also a fantastic excuse to have a pre-wedding cake tasting session to find those fabulous fairytale flavours. It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it, right?
You Have to Love It
Yes, it really is that simple. Whatever you choose, you have to be absolutely and completely head-over-heels in love with your wedding cake. Whether you’ve chosen a sparkling, ten-tiered tower, a table of cake pops, cupcakes and other mouth-watering desserts, or something entirely personal to you, your feelings about it are what matters the most.
Remember, this is your fairytale and nobody else’s. A cake that might perfectly represent a different couple might be all wrong for you and your personalities, so don’t feel pressured into choosing something that someone else might love but does nothing for you.
A fairytale wedding is all about creating your perfect day, and a fairytale wedding cake is no exception. The key is to find a cake designer whose work you love and who you click with and trust to bring your vision to life. Bon appétit!
