Do I Need to Feed My Wedding Photographer?

The subject of feeding your wedding photographer is one that comes up repeatedly within our community and the answer is really rather subjective.

We give a very interactive and involved service, and we love to have the opportunity to be seated with your guests so we can mingle and really be a part of your day. I have photographer friends who, on the other hand, could think of nothing worse than 'having to sit with wedding guests'!

I think it's very dependent on the situation, the length of the wedding day and the logistics. Many of the larger venues will have provision for "crew meals", and on a number of occasions, we have been sat in a separate room with the band, the toastmaster or even, on one occasion, the ballet dancers! On other occasions, we have been fortunate enough to be treated to the full meal and have sat with family and friends in the main dining room - which is just great. It means that we become more integrated with your wedding party and people relax and accept "The Photographers" as normal guests and not people to avoid!

At the end of the day, you have to appreciate that the photographers could well be working harder and longer than anybody else. Starting from before you have your dress on, and finishing after the first dance, whilst having to keep alert and creative for the entire process - it's a dedicated and skilled job, and can be very tiring indeed. We believe that it makes sense to ensure your photographers are well fed and watered throughout the day, and you will get much back in return.

Of course, you only need to discuss the options before your wedding day, and decide between you how you'd like to manage this. I know of some photographers who would happily sit in their cars and eat some sandwiches, and if that works for them then that's just fine all around. That's not how we work, as we like to be a little more involved on the day.

There is no right or wrong approach really, but it's most important that you have the conversation well in advance so everyone's expectations are set.
