How to Choose a Wedding Hair and Make-Up Artist

Congratulations you’re engaged! You have booked the venue, the photographer and lusted after the dress of your dreams - the second time you have searched for 'the one'!  But have you put any thought into finding the right wedding hair and make-up artist? This is a very important task indeed. They have the power to put that cherry on the top for you.

Finding the right hair and make-up artist should be as much about their skill as it is their personality and nature, this should be reflected in their website or even better through a personal or professional recommendation.

They will ultimately be your calming influence on the morning or alternatively the person who is just as excited as you are at anticipating all the treats of the day and seeing them unfurl before your eyes as all your plans come together.

When I meet a bride for the first time, I love to hear about her journey to becoming a bride, which gives me a sense of who they are and of their vision.  You should feel as a bride that your ideas are being listened to and if you have no direction, that you are guided in the right one.  Be open minded and expose yourself to the wealth of knowledge that can be offered to you from the many years of experience they have in working with brides.

Here is a checklist of qualities you need and qualities you don't!

Positive List

  1. Skilled and open minded
  2. Patient and calming influence
  3. Well organised with action plans for every eventuality
  4. Cheerful
  5. Passionate about making you look beautiful
  6. Uses good quality hair and make-up products

Negative List

  1. Too pushy
  2. Doesn't listen
  3. Overpowering personality
  4. Disorganised
  5. Impatient
  6. Practises poor hygiene standards

Above all your hair and make-up artist should try lots of ideas with you until you’re happy, and if your vision changes in a few months time, they should be happy to re visit and try again.

You will know you have picked the right artist when you are looking forward to that doorbell ringing on the morning of your wedding, knowing you are going to be pampered and beautiful!
