When Should you Send Your Save the Date Cards and Wedding Invitations?

The days of sending your wedding invitations 4-6 weeks ahead of your event are over! These days’ people are busier. It’s official. About.com says “It seems in recent years being busy has become the rule rather than the exception”. What this means in terms of a wedding is that the schedules of your families and friends are getting booked up, making the need for planning ahead essential.
The way in which we get married is different and it’s no longer a necessity to marry on a Saturday; the demand for Thursday, Friday and Sunday weddings are up. If you are getting married on a weekday guests will require plenty of time to request holiday from work. If you are getting married on a Sunday it’s best to ensure they don’t plan a big Saturday night before!

Let your guests know your wedding date as soon as you can. Wedding stationery companies invented “save the date cards” to serve as a means of letting your guests know your date and rough location well in advance. If you would rather not go to the expense of save the dates, a simple solution is to send an email or, if the timing suits, an enclosure with a Christmas card.
Most importantly, ensure your invites are sent out in good time. I would recommend at least 3 months ahead of the wedding, 4 months if possible and 6 months if you are getting married abroad. With this in mind, it’s important that the stationery company you have chosen can produce your order in good time. Check turnaround times out in the early planning stages and sending your invites will be a straightforward process.
Good luck!
