Choosing the Perfect Wedding Cake

The sweetest planning stage of your wedding surely has to be choosing a wedding cake! With so many delicious flavours and gorgeous designs to choose from it can be a real treat.

After the bride and groom, the wedding cake is often the main centrepiece at most wedding receptions. It is also the focus of one of the most traditional elements of the wedding day......’the cutting of the cake’. Guests will gather round and photographs will be taken. With this in mind, it’s important to choose the right cake.

As with all fashion, there are many different design routes that can be taken when choosing your cake, and there are many different cake designers that can help you. Personally, I would suggest thinking about your wedding cake design once you have first: 1) booked your venue, 2) chosen your floral displays, 3) picked your wedding dress.

Having established these elements, it’s much easier to see what direction the ‘theme’ of your day will take. Are you having a modern wedding, a traditional wedding or perhaps a vintage themed day? Think about these elements when you go for your first wedding cake design consultation. Take colour swatches, dress and flower photos and details of the reception room. These will all help your wedding cake maker understand what direction the design should take and help you to find the perfect cake for you.
