Styling and Decorating Your Vintage Wedding

When it comes to styling a wedding, so much of it is dependent upon the decorations, props, flowers, linen and silverware. Tables look so breathtakingly beautiful when properly dressed. As this is vintage styling each table will look slightly different, with a lovely selection of china and glass vases, and pretty teapots to display an array of flowers and foliage.

Let’s start with the table centre. This can be a low glass cake stand with edges to hold a lovely mossy base. Stand your container of flowers on this and you have a perfect elevated table centre. If your tables are round you could have two 3-branch candelabra either side, and if you’re having long tables then dot the candelabra and table centres to create a magnificent look, and then fill the spaces with little china cups with tea lights in. The table places should then be set with the finest silver cutlery and lovely linen napkins, perhaps tied with a ribbon, and to complete the vintage table setting, place two pairs of glass salt and pepper dishes. When the candles are lit the whole room looks wonderful and creates such a fantastic atmosphere of decadent and elegant dining.

There are further areas you can decorate. If you are in a marquee for instance, then create a fabulous entrance of boughs with hanging foliage and flowers. Decorate the buffet table, bar or pudding station with areas of vintage objects, such as old umbrellas, suit cases, tin baths, and hat stands. If you are in a building with a fireplace then this cries out for an abundance of decorations. The way it’s all put together will create a vintage look.

With the venue styled it’s down to you and your guests to continue the look. You could ask guests to dress in the style of your chosen vintage era, or to just wear accessories such as a gorgeous hat, perched so that the netting covers the eyes, and evening gloves. Just these two items alone will transform a modern outfit and give it a vintage look.

For vintage winter weddings you can go all the way with Christmas decorations. Decorate the tables with an abundance of shiny baubles, little sugar bowls of Hellebores, Snow Drops or Narcissus, with the earth covered in moss to match the moss in the table centers. Another winter style could be to choose everything in white and silver; magical.
