Necklace Ideas for Different Wedding Dress Styles

We are often asked by our brides to help them choose the best bridal accessories for their wedding dress. It is important not just to fall in love with your wedding jewellery, but to make sure it works with the style of your wedding dress and, most importantly, doesn’t crowd or work against the neckline.

Here are some of our ideas on how to find the perfect necklace for most wedding dress necklines:

V-Neck

Pendants work best with a V-neckline and, depending on the style of the dress, you can either go for something simple like a stunning diamond (or diamante!) pendant, or something sentimental like a silver heart on chain. V-necklines can also work with more statement vintage pendants if that is more your style.

Sweetheart

A sweetheart neckline lends itself to most styles of necklaces; I particularly like drop necklaces or pendants which work well with the dip in the sweetheart neckline. Try to keep some distance between the necklace and top of your dress so the neckline doesn’t look too crowded.

Halter Neck

With the resurgence of all things vintage, halter neck wedding dresses have come back in fashion. You could opt not to have a necklace with this style and instead go for some lovely vintage-style chandelier or drop earrings. However, simple pendants can also work well with this neckline and are a nice touch, especially if there is a sentimental memory associated with the piece or you have had it made especially for you.

Off-the-Shoulder

Most necklaces will suit the off-the-shoulder style, but chokers or decorative necklaces tend to work best as they mirror the curve of the top of the dress. It is important though to find the right balance with your other accessories and headpiece or tiara.

I hope the above tips help you! If you have further questions or your dress has a neckline that isn’t included above and want some more ideas, feel free to email me at sangeeta@olivierlaudus.com
