Choosing Wedding Flowers to Suit Your Venue

Whether you are getting married in a grand stately home, an imposing castle, a pretty marquee or the cutest village hall, there are flowers to suit.

Or course, you can just pick something you fall in love with, but if you're struggling to come up with a theme then have a peek at the ideas below, and remember, if you need help, ask your florist. I am sure they will have lots and lots of lovely suggestions.

Contemporary Hotel or Bar

• Goldfish bowls with twisted Calla Lilies, Asian Orchids or Tulips, always look fantastic, and are brilliant for brides on a budget too.
• Single stems of blooms look hugely striking - especially in gorgeous bold colours. Rows of bowls or cube vases work perfectly.
• Grouping the same flowers in different colours, or different flowers in the same colour look simple, stunning, clean and contemporary - perfect for this kind of venue and wedding.  Using less foliage in your arrangements makes them less country and more minimal. Try using grasses or folded Aspidistra Leaves for more structure.

Country House Hotel

• Candelabra look wonderful and fit perfectly into grand old buildings. Have rings of flowers with little or no foliage for a cleaner look, or with lots of trailing Ivy if you want to go with something more traditional.
• Large urns with flowers and foliage spilling out of them look amazing. Fill with gorgeous Hydrangea, Lilies and Roses with plenty of trailing greenery for a stunning look. Squat urns can carry the theme through to your tables…and look terribly cute.
• Storm lanterns surrounded by a ring of pretty petals look yummy if you are tying the knot in a historic building. Use plenty of foliage, and add seasonal blooms to fit your chosen colour theme.

Marquee

• Tall vases of Delphiniums, Peonies and garden Roses are heavenly in marquees, making the most of the height. If the marquee is in a gorgeous garden, see if you can pick sprigs of Lavender or Rosemary to place on the napkins. It will smell amazing.
• Hanging balls or flowers work brilliantly for a marquee wedding - and are very striking. If budget isn't so much of an issue, fill them with seasonal flowers and foliage, or how about using green topiary balls? No one will even be able to tell they aren't real - but will look extra funky.
• Consider using potted plants and herbs in the centre of your tables. They look and smell wonderful, can be given to guests as favours, or you can plant them in your garden for an everlasting memory of your big day.

Village Hall

• Jam jars - I love them, and would use them every day if I could. Tie them with cute ribbon, or make labels including your names and the date of your wedding. Fill them with Mint and Rosemary and lots of multi coloured Stocks for the prettiest of table settings.
• Search your local charity shops and friends houses for a variety of different containers. Cute crystal vases, tea cups, quirky tea pots, glasses; anything you can put water in! The more mismatched the better. Put in single stems or cute collections of seasonal smelly flowers. Group them together on round tables, or scatter different height containers along long tables. One of my favourite looks around.
• Cake stands always look fab filled with flowers. You could even fill them with cupcakes and flowers for a truly yummy table centre…a feast for the eyes and stomach!
