Bridal Veil, Headpiece or Hair Accessory?

Should you wear a bridal veil, headpiece or hair accessory at your wedding? For many brides-to-be, a veil is seen as a part of their wedding ensemble they will never have the opportunity to wear again, as it may seem a little inappropriate to wear a veil during the weekly shop at Asda!

Your chosen style of wedding gown and venue could dictate whether you wear a veil. Some brides have statement headpieces designed especially for them as they feel they do not suit veils of any kind. As a bride myself, I didn’t wear a veil. A second marriage and our wedding venue influenced that decision.

The alternatives to veils are wide and ranging, but sumptuous, asymmetric bridal headdresses like Autumn Bouquet (below, left) or Naomi (below, right) from one of my favourite designers Tiararama, look fabulous without a veil. You can adorn the back of your hair with a design such as a comb which looks fabulous pushed in to a French pleat.

For a brave winter bride, something very dramatic like this Snow Queen headpiece (below) would look amazing teamed with a fur or feather shrug.

Some brides like the idea of using fabrics in their headpiece. Liliana (below) shows how this can be done beautifully so you have the best of both worlds.

Your headpiece and veil are quite often the bridal accessories which turn your wedding dress into the beautiful wedding gown it is, but you must be cautious. The key is that the dress is the star of the day, and you will need to strike the right balance between dramatising the dress and the accessory becoming the centre of attention.
