After countless months planning the big day - when it’s finally over - the honeymoon is a time to seriously recharge and spend some time enjoying newly married life. It’s therefore crucial to find the right destination; whether that’s somewhere within a two hour flight or twenty hour flight. Although a far flung trip may seem like an effort after a hectic wedding, there’s nothing quite like a long haul journey to make you feel a million miles from home. Given that Australia is such a vast country with a varied climate, it’s a great choice for anyone chasing the sun after a winter wedding. Tasmania

Often overlooked in favour of the mainland, Tasmania really needs to be seen to be believed. This is the place to get right up close to nature, and I don’t just mean the eponymous devil. Head to the beautiful Freycinet Park where eagles swoop around the dramatic granite cliff tops. Try Saffire resort, a lovely premium boutique hotel and the ideal honeymoon bolt hole overlooking Great Oyster Bay. The oysters here are a must.

Lord Howe Island

Lord Howe Island could have been made for newlyweds. Strung out in the Pacific Ocean, the crescent shaped island, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is just a two hour flight from Sydney. Cape Range National Park, Western Australia
