Wedding Flower Accessories

Flowers are truly beautiful things, obviously, but they can be made even more special and personal by incorporating cute accessories in to your wedding bouquets or table centres. They can even help out with your old, new, borrowed or blue.

Last year there were a couple of trends that kept popping up; vintage buttons, and butterflies of all descriptions… and they are still fluttering in 2011 which does make me happy. Give me a butterfly or a bow and I'm a happy flower girl.

We also use a lot of Swarovski Crystals in our wedding flowers. They work wonderfully if you have a tricky colour theme that you want to match up, and can't quite find the perfect colour of rose or hydrangea.  Get your florist to wire in some crystals or beads to match – they transform neutral bouquets.

I could go on and on about pretty accessories, but here are my top five wedding flower accessories.

1. A family brooch can be used to secure your bridal bouquet, or even pinned to the top of your flowers. A bit of sparkle with a lot of meaning.

2. Fill vases with fruit or sweets and then top with a beautiful bunch of blooms; it gives a normal vase of flowers a lot more interest. Sweets are always a popular choice (especially for the boys). We even wired Fruit Allsorts in to one bride’s bouquet! You could also name your tables after different penny sweets and fill the vases with each table with the named sweets.

3. Butterflies (sorry). I do love them, and not only are they very pretty, but they can help tie in a tricky colour scheme if you have one.

4. Crystals. Every girl likes a bit of bling right? Need I go on?

5. Buttons. Lots of brides last year came to me with collections of vintage buttons that they wanted to incorporate in to their bouquets, buttonholes and table centres. It is just the most gorgeous personal touch.
