Can I Give My Wedding Photographer a List of Poses I Like?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with giving your wedding photographer some indication as to what you like pose-wise or style-wise, but do be careful. The overall consideration here is to ask yourself why you hired them in the first place, and trust unto that decision!

For example, if you have hired a documentary photographer, whose style is to photograph what happens throughout the wedding day with little or no interaction with you or your guests, there is little point now deciding that you want some lovely posed shots with your new husband and family, against the backdrop of your beautiful venue. You might have chosen the wrong person and now it's a little too late.

So, try to have a think before you choose your wedding photographer and make sure your styles match. Have the conversation during the initial consultation to ensure that they will be receptive to some input from you closer to the wedding. However, don't dictate, and don't demand the exact same shots that you have seen in a magazine. It may be completely impossible, for a whole raft of reasons, and it might actually be because of you (clothing style, body shapes etc) and not necessarily the photographer.

Do remember though, if you have already seen images in your photographer's portfolio that you liked and that you connected with, trust your initial decision and trust that they know what they are doing. If you try and restrict their creativity by demanding certain shots, you may end up with nothing you like at all... creativity needs breathing space to thrive.
