Top 10 Royal Wedding First Dance Songs

Well…it’s what everyone is talking about…the Royal Wedding is almost upon us! I have no idea what William and Kate will be doing for their first dance, but I do hope it’s something personal to them and they don’t get too caught up in all the speculation and pressure of being in the public eye.

I think there’s probably a temptation there to go for something a bit stuffy and traditional, but I think they  should focus on something that’s not too cheesy or old fashioned, but perhaps something a little more modern but classy at the same time. Sounds like a tough song to find...

What about these:

  1. Kissing You – Desree – this is just a beautiful song! I can’t really think of anything that fits the bill more – it’s modern (so has a young feel to it), but completely classy and definitely sophisticated enough, even for a Royal Wedding!
  2. Feel My Love – Adele – I keep going on about this one for first dances, but it works so well. It’s really simple – just piano and vocals, and the melody and words are beautiful.
  3. Lucky – Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat – I love this song! A little more up-tempo and fun, but definitely not cheesy or tacky. Lyrically I just love the meaning to this song too. It’s perfect for Wills and Kate because it’s quite light hearted, and hopefully for that one special moment will take away any pressures they might be feeling about their big day.
  4. Just the Way You Are (Amazing) – Bruno Mars – Another one that’s lyrically great, but not too stuffy or traditional.
  5. Banana Pancakes – Jack Johnson – Gorgeous tune. Again, light hearted, but lyrically incredibly powerful and meaningful. I like how this song is about locking yourselves away and forgetting about everything else outside…very romantic! (And I love pancakes – yummy!)
  6. I’m Yours – Jason Mraz – A nice reggae/beach vibe to this. I seem to be swaying to these slightly more light hearted choices don’t I? I just love the laid back feel to it, and lyrically again it’s just perfect for a first dance.
  7. Everything – Michael Buble – This is a really popular first dance and I must say I love it! The words are beautiful… whoever Mr Buble wrote this about is one lucky lady!
  8. Grow Old With You – Adam Sandler (from the Wedding Singer) – Ok, I thought I’d throw this one in. It’s totally fun, will make everyone smile, and I’m pretty sure NOBODY would expect them to do something like this. But on the other hand, lyrically, how more apt can you get? (Could perhaps do with Adam Sandler writing an extra verse at the end about becoming King and Queen…but hey, it’s almost perfect)
  9. You’re the Best Thing – Style Council – I thought perhaps we could finish on a few 80’s ideas. Obviously these two are both 80’s children, and so I’m sure this song will be nostalgic for them both. It’s not too obvious, but it’s just a lovely song and got a lovely feel to it.
  10. Nothing Like This – Omar – Another 80’s track which makes a gorgeous first dance. Lyrically it’s similar to the Jack Johnson one, and it’s one of those songs that just makes you sigh a big, happy, ‘agghhhhhhhh!’

Do you have any ideas? I’d love to hear your input on this!

Happy Wedding Planning
