Top 10 Most Popular Wedding Songs for 2011
2011 is definitely proving to be a fantastic year for music! I’ve been getting really into a lot of the music that’s out at the moment, and that’s unlike me, given that I’m usually more of an 80’s addict!
People seem to be really keen on having more and more modern music at their wedding lately, and why not? Although the classics will always be classics, it’s nice to have something a bit different!
Here are my predictions for 2011’s top 10 most requested wedding songs!
- Forget You – CeeLo Green
This song has been going down a storm lately and seems to really appeal to all ages. It’s a nice mix of the old soul and motown sounds with a modern edge, and is a guaranteed crowd pleaser! - Rolling in the Deep – Adele
After her mind-blowing performance at the Brits this year, brides and grooms-to-be have been very keen to get some Adele into their reception music...and what a tune this is! - Pack Up – Eliza Doolittle
This is another one of those songs that is just timeless. Like ‘Forget You’, it’s got a perfect combination of old skool motown sounds, mixed with the poppy sassy-ness of Eliza Doolittle. I’ve found that this tune is popular with all ages. - You’ve Got The Love – Florence and the Machine
This has actually become really popular as a first dance song believe it or not. Ok, it’s not your typical first dance song, but lyrically it’s absolutely perfect. It’s also a real ‘epic’ number that will stick in your guests’ minds for a long time, and probably tug on a few heart strings! This also goes down a storm later on in the reception. - Don’t Stop Believing – Journey
This is such an epic number to finish on. It’s the kind of song that will get all your guests on the floor, waving their hands in the air and ‘fist clenching’ on all the big notes. Fantastic for 80’s lovers and the younger generation that perhaps might have been introduced to this song more recently. - Teenage Dream – Katy Perry
In fact anything by the lovely Miss Perry is very popular at the moment. Her music actually lends itself quite nicely to a live band too. - Price Tag – Jessie J
This song is EVERYWHERE at the moment and I think it will be a really popular one! - What’s My Name – Rhianna
Although this has more of a mellow vibe to it, I’ve already seen it filling the dance-floor at plenty of weddings this year. - Pyro – Kings of Leon
The rockier tunes seem to be really popular for weddings at the moment, and why not? If it’s your dream to get your granny moshing on the dance floor (ha ha) then this is definitely the tune for you! - Tonight’s the Night – Black Eyed Peas
This was undoubtedly the most requested song of 2010, and I’m sure it will carry on into this year - always a floor-filler! This one doesn’t seem to work so well with a live band though, so my advice is to keep this one for the DJ.
What are your thoughts? I thought it might be a nice idea to share some thoughts on this, so I have set up a topic on the Wedding Community discussion forum – let me know your ideas! To join in the discussion click here.
