Top Ten Wedding Money Saving Tips

If you are looking to save money on your wedding here are my top ten wedding money saving tips.

  1. Don’t become a décor junkie, keep the tables simple and elegant, it will look better and save you spending cash on trinkets you don’t use.
  2. If you pay for a dozen cases of wine for the meal, check how many are used – any 'leftovers' can be put behind the bar in the evening.
  3. If you have a few large flower arrangements at your ceremony, move them to your reception and save some money.
  4. Use your cake as dessert to avoid paying for an additional course. Add a little fruit coulis and some jugs of cream, and don’t forget that supermarket wedding cakes can look great and cost less.
  5. Some hotel wedding venues will give the bride and groom a complementary room on the night. Negotiate before you book and remember, if you don’t ask you don’t get! Also remember that wedding venues will often do deals on weekday weddings.
  6. Don’t ignore the high street for your bridesmaid dresses, there are some gorgeous ones around and you can save up to half on the cost of speciality gowns.
  7. Book a wedding photographer by the hour if you're not bothered about having pictures of you getting ready or the evening party.
  8. If a supplier's contract stipulates that you've got to feed them, there's no need to give them the same as the guests. A bar meal or a plate of sandwiches is cheaper.
  9. Kids’ activity bags are great but can be expensive to put together - use websites to print free 'clip art' instead of buying colouring books.
  10. Use a wedding planner. A good one will know how you can really save money, especially when it comes to negotiating with wedding suppliers, they will save you stacks of cash.
