Wedding Flower Ideas for the Royal Wedding
With the first royal wedding of 2011 just around the corner, the fevered speculation has begun on the details of Kate and Wills’ celebrations. As a florist that specialises in luxury wedding flowers, my interests and curiosities are in the shape of her bouquet, the colours, the flower combinations and whether she opts for stylish, glamorous arrangements or something a little more understated to go with the ‘faxed’ invitations.
They must be incredibly excited but also a little bit taken aback with all of the important decisions that they must now make, just as any other newly engaged couples are.
I thought I would provide a little speculation and perhaps some good advice for them both as they start to think about colour schemes and flowers. With an early spring wedding it could be possible for them to source many of their flowers from the UK and our amazing British growers.

Prince William and Kate adore being in Cornwall, having spent a romantic weekend in Fowey last year as well as numerous family holidays for Kate. The couple are likely to become the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and what greater inspiration for their wedding flowers than to use flowers native to Cornwall - such as hydrangeas and agapanthus that adorn the hedgerows and beautiful gardens of Cornwall.

Therefore we could be seeing a colour palette of subtle blues, sea greens and whites. Blues are big news both in fashion, interiors and weddings. Bearing in mind the beautiful sapphire in the middle of her engagement ring, there are a number of reasons why this colour scheme is top of the list for me. Other flowers that would work so well within this scheme would be the cornflower – a favourite of Prince Charles, scabious, delphiniums, stocks, peonies and roses.

Whilst we will probably see elements of traditional floral design in the decoration of their wedding, I hope that Kate’s flowers will also be inspired by her love of fashion – particularly her knowledge of accessories. I am hoping that they go for something a little bit different for the night time celebrations. After what is likely to be a formal day it would be nice to think they can let their hair down, turn the palace ballroom into the coolest nightclub and use lighting and stronger accents of colour to create something special for their guests to be wowed by.
Being the style icon that she is, we are expecting to have an endless string of brides wanting to emulate ‘What Kate did’. Therefore it would be great for the flowers to ooze elegance and romance but also exhibit a modern twist on stylish, luxurious wedding flowers.
