Wedding Flower Trends 2011
With my head full of new ideas for the coming wedding season, I thought it would be a great time to share my thoughts and predictions for 2011 wedding flower and decorative trends. Overall there is a move towards subtle luxury, and with the DIY trend here to stay creativity and personalisation of your wedding decor is a must, to reflect you and your partner.
Bouquets will have more intricate detail, with a wider mix of flowers used rather than a single flower in a dome. Having stems showing and kept slightly longer will give you the ‘just gathered from the garden’ look.

There will be a subtle introduction of colour to many bridal bouquets; think pistachio, quartz and powder pinks - the colour helps the flowers stand out from your dress.
Recycling family treasures and trinkets is a fabulous way to personalise wedding flowers. From brooches and necklaces on bouquet handles to books and old photographs as part of your table decorations.

Table decorations will take on an elegant look with sparkling crystal cut candelabra and vases. This look is easy to achieve as most good florists enable you to hire such items.

Table decorations will be eclectic with not every table looking the same; different heights, collections of vases and candles add interest to a large room.
Inspired by home furnishing trends, reception decor takes inspiration from French styling with an elegant vintage feel. Use heavily petalled, large blooms - peonies, hydrangeas, pom pom chrysanthemums and garden roses.

Hanging decorations such as wedding wreaths and hearts from church gates and doorways personalise your wedding venue. Colourful Chinese lanterns will form a dramatic scene hanging in marquees.
Blues and greys will be big news this year - if you cannot find a flower in the colour you want, work it into the scheme by using ribbon lined vases.

Large arrangements become more affordable using branches of willow, painted birch twigs or blossom. Flowers can be hung to the branches using test tubes.
Large arrangements can double as table plans, hanging table cards onto branches and later using them for guests to write special messages to hang onto the tree. Perfect if you have a big space you need to fill.
Brides are becoming more environmentally conscious and there are plenty of British flower growers that can provide some exquisite blooms. Narcissi (paperwhites) are a perfect example; stunning, scented and inexpensive.

To help you personalise your decorations, look out for flower inspiration clinics held by the top florists. They will really help you develop your ideas if you are going down the DIY route.
