Wedding Jewellery and Accessory Trends 2011

2011 is a very exciting year to be getting married, as the choice of gorgeous wedding dresses on offer has never been better.  There really is a dream wedding dress to suit every woman, from the most timeless and classic bride to the most modern fashion-forward girl about town.

Two key trends that are coming through in dresses are Floral and Sorbet-Colour.  However, these potentially rather soppy design features have been brought bang up-to-date for 2011 and given just the right amount of sex-appeal to make them thoroughly modern.

Dresses embellished with chiffon roses cling in all the right places to keep the silhouette lean, and layers of lace, tulle and silks in hints of oyster pink, champagne, lilac and silver make ivory dresses look safe by comparison.

After a few years of loose, relaxed hair, 2011 styles are going to become more groomed, with a return to sleek 60s inspired up-dos.

To accessorise this look, vintage styles are still working well, with side tiaras, brooches and other ‘hair jewellery’ still outshining the traditional tiara.  A cluster of diamante hair pins worn at the back of the head or strands of delicate jewels pinned around the forehead will be big news.

After years of pearls, pearls and pearls, modern girls will be looking for gemstone wedding jewellery that reflect the soft pastel colour palette – think rose quartz, smoky quartz, pewter pearls and antique gold.

Wedding jewellery is getting bigger for 2011 – long rope necklaces, large chandelier earrings, chunky cuffs and statement collar-style necklaces will all be seen going up the aisle on this year’s trend-setting brides.  But be warned, balance is key with this look so go for one or two key pieces and don’t be afraid to leave some parts bare to create maximum impact.

Veils are making a comeback this year, but not as we know them.  Tiny birdcage veils, fascinators with frothy tulle and antique lace bands are the veils to be seen in – keep it above the shoulder for 2011 style.

Finally, we will all be watching with bated breath to see what bride-of-the-year Kate Middleton wears on her wedding day, because she may well be re-writing the style book for 2011 when she marries in April.
