Planning for Wedding Day Weather

Rain, rain go away…. Unfortunately rain comes with the territory in the UK but do not be put off, you can hire some white umbrellas as a big day back up should the weather do its worst… I always tell my brides, plan for rain and if the sun shines it’s a bonus!

Here are a few tips to help you stay prepared for different weather eventualities on your wedding day.

  • Keep the chill of your shoulders by adding a wrap to your ensemble - sophisticated and practical.
  • It’s a heat wave…should the weather be fine and hot, think about some ice pops as treats for your guests during reception drinks, it will be a welcome refresher.
  • Check if a gazebo is available at your venue; these can be invaluable in any weather as shelter from all the elements.
  • Ice cream vans are growing in popularity. Fun and funky, they can be used for dessert, an extra treat or just a talking point for the day. They are practical too if the weather is fine… 99 anyone?
  • Activity tables. Perhaps set up a table full of fun for your younger guests, this can keep them entertained whatever the weather. Put out some colouring books and pencils, Lego and puzzles and it will keep the kids happy for hours.
  • Hire a wedding planner. They cannot influence the weather, we are in England after all, but they will be able to come up with a back up plan.
  • If you have planned a winter wedding or the weather just is not on the shiny side, add some cool wellies to your wedding outfit. They are very glamorous and certainly make a statement.
  • Should your wedding be later in the year, perhaps get some lanterns for outside. You can hang them in trees, and as it is twilight much earlier in the evening they will look very romantic, especially if you have a late afternoon ceremony.

Whatever the weather brings do not panic. We cannot always predict it so it is not worth getting stressed over, remember the meaning of the day and just relax.
