Planning a Wedding Breakfast
So the time has come to start planning your wedding breakfast (this is what the meal is called on your wedding day, no matter what the time). Bearing in mind this is one of the most important meals of your lives and certainly the most expensive overall it must be right.

Your menu should say something about you as a couple but remember, you are also catering for a large group, so although things such as foie-gras sound lovely, will they appeal to everyone?

Traditionally you would have had something along the lines of soup, roast, tart. These days are long gone and wedding menus are becoming more ‘restaurant’ in creation, with a real flare and elegance on the plate.
Sit down and look at your options –
- Are you serving canapés, if so do you need a starter?
- What time of year is the wedding? A summer menu should be light and fresh, winter can be heavier and warming.
- Are you serving dessert or using the wedding cake?
Once you have answered these questions then sit down and discuss with your caterer your options, likes and dislikes. After this your caterer should be able to put together menu options. Then the fun begins as you have your tasting. Suddenly you become judges for ‘The Great British Menu’, discuss at length your thoughts and make notes. When you are finished, discuss again with your caterer and hopefully you will arrive at a well balanced, fun and exciting menu which will keep your guests chatting on excellence throughout the meal.
The above is for a sit down meal, but the same idea can be put into practice for a bbq / hog roast. You can still have canapés, starters and dessert and you should be offered the chance to try and choose.

Whatever you go for, don’t forget to match in the drinks, wine and aperitifs.
