Wedding Day Hair Care Tips

Alexis Daly shares her wedding day hair care tips.

What do you do when your hairdresser tells you with a carefree smile not to wash your hair the day of your wedding?

This is a request often asked of many brides. This is usually met with a horrified expression followed by lots of questions, but please don't worry, it will be ok and there is a good explanation and a few good reasons behind it.

Hair can be extremely naughty when first washed. It slips and slides and certainly wont withhold a whole day of boisterous cuddling from your relatives or crazy dancing to the cheesy 80's disco.

The recommendation is to wash your hair the evening before the big day and some mousse should be added to get a better texture, this will be nice and malleable for preening and coiffing on the day.

Also, if there are any flowers, accessories or a veil to be attached then your hair mustn’t be slippery. You don't want to watch your veil blow off into the sunset. As much as it would delight a gleeful photographer, it’s not one for the album. A great photo but not great for the glamour factor girls!

Will my hair still look clean and glossy on the day I hear you ask?

The answer is YES and the little secret for keeping it looking shiny is simple.......

The front section of your hair is washed and blow-dried beautifully. As you can see from the photo of my bride, it also adds a level of hilarity to the morning’s shenanigans. The result, beautiful hair that will stay put.

Are there exceptions to the rule?

Yes, for those ladies out there with exceptionally fine and oily hair, there are compromises that can be reached. Every bride has a different hair type and this is always taken into consideration.

So when you get that all important request, rest assured it’s all under control and you can enjoy your day, veil, curls, pins and best of all smile intact!
