Top 5 Tips for a Happy Honeymoon

Original Travel's top tips for a happy honeymoon:

  1. The date you set for the wedding will determine where you go on honeymoon. Everyone has a dream honeymoon destination in mind, but if it's the wrong time of year then resist the temptation to go. Bad weather can put a real - excuse the pun - dampener on a honeymoon, and you can always go to the destination another time.
  2. Speak to someone who has actually been to the place or places in question. This might sound like stating the blindingly obvious but you want this trip to be perfect, and someone who has been there before can give you a steer on whether the place will suit your needs and budget.
  3. Avoid having your wife travel on her married name. It might be more romantic to travel as Mr and Mrs Bloggs, but it involves a lot of admin and logistics to change her passport, so it's much easier to travel under her maiden name. If you do decide that she travels under her married name, let your travel company know so the name on the flight ticket is right!
  4. Be realistic with your budget, and if you're headed to a desert island hideaway find out how much meals and other additional costs are likely to be. You'll be a captive audience and there is nothing worse than feeling you can't order what you want because water is £10 for a bottle.
  5. Try to find out exactly what your Mrs might want. There's still a lot to be said for surprising her with the destination.... as long as it's a good surprise! Do some subtle research or ask her friends, but just make sure you don't plan a skydiving and jungle trekking trip in Borneo if she's a spa bunny with a penchant for swanky boutique Riviera hotels. Your marriage could be one of the shortest on record.
