Debbie and Rob
04/09/2009
The Millhouse Hotel, Swallowfield, Berkshire

Debbie and Rob met at Art College in 1998.  Rob spotted Debbie in the art shop but she had to wait until the college leavers’ party eight months later for him to ask her out.

The Proposal

Rob had a rather unique way of proposing to Debbie.  After originally considering proposing whilst they were on holiday in Hong Kong, Rob decided he was too worried about losing the ring.  Instead he hid the ring along with a note in their pet rabbit’s cage for Debbie to find!

The Bride’s Outfit

Debbie has one word for her wedding dress...AMAZING!  After deciding she wanted either a 50’s or medieval inspired dress Debbie found hers on the Candy Anthony website.  After making an appointment to visit the boutique at the OXO Tower, the first dress she tried on was the one she had seen on the website and it was ‘love at first sight’.

The Groom’s Outfit

Rob chose a classic tuxedo from Next to go with Debbie’s dress.

The Bridal Party

Debbie had one bridesmaid, her sister, who wore a dress that Debbie made from a vintage pattern using floral fabric.  The best man wore the same style tuxedo as Rob.

Wedding Theme

Originally intending to have country tea party theme, Debbie and Rob’s wedding evolved into a 50’s tea party theme, dictated by Debbie’s wedding dress.

Rings

Debbie’s wedding ring is a platinum band from a jeweller in Wokingham.  Rob doesn’t wear jewellery so instead of a wedding ring, Debbie gave him a pocket watch that she had specially engraved.

Flowers

Debbie and Rob used Linda Coyle at Animation Flowers.  Debbie had a bouquet of red, pink orange and cream roses and her bridesmaid had a bouquet of red roses.  The buttonholes were also made from red and cream roses.

The Ceremony & Reception

The ceremony and reception both took place at The Millhouse Hotel in Swallowfields, a Georgian house with a beautiful garden and marquee.  The marquee had gorgeous chandeliers, complimented by matching drapes and chair covers with ivory sashes.  Chic style photo frames to hold the table numbers and origami roses finished the look.  76 guests were present for their ceremony and wedding breakfast, with a further 30 guests joining them for their evening reception.

The Cake

Debbie and Rob had a giant cup cake made by Rob’s mother as their wedding cake.  It was a carrot cake with butter cream icing and a giant sugar paste cherry on top. There were also tiny edible red hearts scattered on it.  They used smaller cup cakes from Waitrose on vintage style cake stands as table centres.  The cup cakes were decorated with pink and orange sugar paste petals to match with their wedding flowers.

The Photographer

Debbie and Rob decided to use the same photographer that Debbie’s sister had used for her wedding after seeing what a fantastic job they had done for her and her husband.  They used KT Bruce Photography, husband and wife KT and Martin Bruce and because Debbie and Rob already knew them it made them feel very relaxed and more comfortable about having their pictures taken.

The Honeymoon

After spending 6 nights at the Millennium Hilton in Bangkok, Debbie and Rob spent a further 6 nights at the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore.

Bride’s Top Tip

“Make lists and if people offer to help take them up on it!.”

Groom’s Top Tip

“Pick a best man that you can rely on to do all the jobs that are expected of them.”

Best Buy

Debbie’s shoes…£25 in the Coast spring sale!!

Money Saving Ideas

“We decided on a BBQ instead of a full blown 3 course meal - much cheaper and gives people much more choice.  We also had cup cakes as centre pieces -these acted as favors as well as wedding cake -we saved loads!”

Bride’s Beauty Tips

“Take time to exfoliate for a few weeks before the wedding, especially the tops of your arms and back as it will make your skin tone much better and make you glow!”
