Top Wedding Trends - Dessert Tables

2009 was all about sweet or candy stations, for 2010 the top wedding trend is dessert tables. If you’re looking for a focal point to get all your guests talking this is definitely a trend for you.

The key to getting this right is to make sure you’re dressing the table on different levels, so get to work finding varying heights of cake stands as well as platters and plates. The idea is to draw the eye to the crockery as much as the treats you plan to offer your guests. It’s all about creating a visual feast for that initial impression.

Wow Factor

Choose a focal point on the table. You might wish to show off your wedding cake or, if you would prefer to display that separately, a large display of macaroons or a stack of doughnuts.

Food for Thought

If you’re stuck for ideas as to what kind of treats you would find on a dessert table, here are some suggestions to get you started:

  • Cupcakes
  • Petit Fours
  • French Fancies
  • Cheesecakes
  • Cream Cakes
  • Mini Tarts
  • Doughnuts
  • Macaroons
  • Chocolate Truffles

Colour Coordinate

Bring your colour scheme into what you display too. You can either use your colour in your desserts, or pick out your colours with your plates and platters. You can also add a splash of colour with tablecloths, wallpaper runners and wrapping paper that you can cut to fit the bases of your platters.

Ease of Service

Whatever you choose to indulge in, make sure everything on your table is easy to access or if not, have a member of staff available to serve for you. Provide napkins if necessary along with side plates and cutlery if you have anything with cream.

Don’t forget to label everything too, especially if you have guests with certain dietary needs. It’ll save you a lot of hassle later on when you don’t have to answer the same questions a million times!
